The North Hill Apartments are located in an active, walkable and vibrant neighborhood of Seattle. The immediate context around the site consists of a mixture of newer and historic buildings constructed of masonry with a simple and modest character. The massing of the project steps down at the street, to more closely align with its context, and is constructed of a deep red masonry to respect the material qualities of it ‘ s surroundings. The project will also employ a bioplanter at the western edge of the site that will retain rainwater to alleviate the runoff loads to the city ‘ s storm system. There will also be a great deal of natural plantings that require minimal irrigation to provide a lush, landscaped entryway where users will interact with other tactile materials like weathered steel, concrete and cedar accents.
