At Hybrid Space, Alex Boeschenstein exhibited two videos that are part of an ongoing series called “Survey.”
The first, “Steal Away,” is comprised of screenflows navigating 3d models of Seattle residences and aerial footage of urban construction sites and Puget Sound landscapes, along with a sound compliment by local electronic musician DJAO. The video, which demonstrates the seductive allure of the panoptic viewpoint, grapples with the tangled issues of real estate development, remote invasiveness, and technologically mediated modes of perception.
In “Guided Tour,” the second video, which will project onto the windows of Hybrid during the month of March, Alex uses a 3d model of he and his roommate’s rental house. Drawing on the conventions and choreographed movements of real estate marketing videos, “Guided Tour” navigates a strange environment of imaginary destruction.
