Rice Design Alliance Competition / Houston AIA / Houston Land Assemblage Redevelopment Authority
The 99k house is a competition winning entry co-designed by HyBrid Architecture and Owen Richards Architects. Sponsored by the Houston, Texas chapter of the AIA (American Institute of Architects) and The National Endowment for the Arts, the competition brief called for an affordable and efficient home that could be built and sold for $99,000. The project incorporates an advanced insulation and mechanical system as well as movable walls and storage units that allow the interior floor plan to be reconfigured or even converted to (2) stacked one-bedroom apartments.
