The commons is about community, it is about people congregating around open space and creating a new home for themselves within the dense, urban environment of Seattle. The commons features a ground level courtyard, in lieu of the more traditional double loaded internal corridor. By opening up the interior of the project, fresh air and sunlight can enter the Commons to create an active pathway with native landscaping as well as durable and warm natural materials. This courtyard is also the social mixing chamber of the project where neighbors are brought together around elements of architectural and shared interaction.
